Gold Coast Training Camp

Since the 13th of June myself and my training squad have been enjoying the wonderful weather of the Gold Coast. Due to the cold conditions in Canberra, it is near impossible to run at 100% for sprint work. In a Paralympic Year this is obviously not conducive for a sprinters preparation. As a result our squad has migrated north to take advantage of both the warmer weather and the competitions on offer here on the Gold Coast. We’ve got a great opportunity to solely focus on training and really do some tough sessions less than three months out. Already its paying dividends with all of the squad improving their training times significantly.

My coach Iryna has planned the whole camp really well. We’re able to train 2 times a day and really take advantage of the excellent facilities the Gold Coast has on offer. Another bonus is that our squad is now well drilled on camps away, we’ve worked out a cooking roster where one of us cooks once a week and some of us are even producing meals Gordan Ramsey would be f*#$ing proud of.

Previous camps i’ve really missed having internet access whilst away, but this time i’ve set myself up with Telstra’s Next G wireless internet. It is sooo good. No matter where i am i have access to my emails, the news, my blog and can even stay in touch with my girlfriend on skype.

So the Gold Coast is really the place to be!!! Especially when compared with Canberra at this time of year.  The only disappointing thing is that due to our intensive training regimen. we don’t have the time or energy to enjoy all the tourist attractions here, even though they’re at our fingertips.
